Police arrested and charged two parents in connection to the death of their twin daughters, months after family members found the infants unresponsive in their cribs at a Houston home, according to a press release.
The Houston Police Department arrested Angelina Belinda Calderon, 21, and Fernando Vega, 21, on Friday, April 19. An autopsy done by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences found that the 1-month-old girls suffered blunt force trauma before they were found unresponsive in their cribs and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics in October 2023, states the press release.
It adds that Calderon and Vega were each charged with two counts of injury to a child.
What happened?
In a tweet, police said that on Oct. 4, family members found the twin girls unresponsive in their crib and called 911. At 11:15 a.m., paramedics pronounced them dead.
According to police, the babies did not show any visible sign of trauma. It wasn't until the autopsy was done that they discovered signs of blunt-force trauma.
